In her doctoral research, Dr Longjam explored the impact of private tutoring on educational inequality in contemporary society. The thesis explored the various facets of private tutoring as juxtaposed to mainstream education. The study found that students spent on an average 3 to 4 hours with the tutoring centres on a regular basis throughout the academic year. Tutorial centers placed overemphasis on succeeding in examinations rather than focusing on deeper understanding of the students. Further, private tutoring spoon-fed students on ready-made answers making them concentrate solely on scoring marks by rote memory, thus adversely impacting creativity, skill, and cognitive ability of the students. The recommendations pointed towards curtailing the emergence of this phenomenon to improve the landscape of education in the state of Manipur. Dr Longjam is thus passionate on developing long-term competencies of adults and students through her work.
As a writer, social activist and a dedicated educator, Dr Longjam actively engages in staying updated with the latest educational trends and methodologies. Her focus lies in creating a nurturing and conducive learning environment, fostering both intellectual and personal growth among her students.
