The School Leadership Academies (SLAs) are dedicated
institutional spaces for strengthening the leadership landscape at the State and Union Territory
levels. Established as an extended arm of the National Centre for School Leadership (NCSL), NIEPA,
the SLAs integrate meaningful research, practice, and policy to cultivate leadership that drives
sustainable, transformative outcomes in education. Working under the supervision of the NCSL, the
School Leadership Academies play a critical role in translating the national framework into local
practice, supporting school leaders, administrators, and system-level functionaries to drive
meaningful changes in diverse school contexts. The idea behind this decentralised framework is to
contextualise leadership ideals across the country. The SLAs envision schools as thriving
institutions of excellence, equity, and innovation. By investing in leadership at every level, SLAs
aim to transform schools into dynamic centres of learning and positive social impact. Guided by a
commitment to professionalism, evidence-based practice, and a shared purpose, the quintessence of
the School Leadership Academies lies in aiding the National Centre for School Leadership in bringing
about holistic school reforms.
At present, 31 School Leadership Academies are operational across the States and UTs, driving
meaningful school leadership reforms within their respective jurisdictions.

I learned how a school leader can work as a sample and example for others, and how to collaborate with stakeholders—parents, alumni, village community and teachers. The NCSL experience helped me learn from peers and experts through meaningful sharing of knowledge.
NCSL helped me become more innovative and initiative-taking. I developed stronger interest in pedagogical innovations, professional development of teachers, parent orientation and community participation—leading to visible positive outcomes.
Through NCSL’s capacity-building programme, I feel more equipped with knowledge and communication skills to implement new initiatives within the School Development Plan—motivating teachers and students to achieve excellence in academic activities.
The motto of the Centre is to reach out to each school in the country, ensuring every child learns and every school excels. To achieve this mission, the Centre has conceptualized school leadership development through operational activities along the core components of the programme.
The NCSL capacity-building programme helped me change my perspective as an administrator and team leader. It strengthened collaboration, improved confidence, and supported innovative approaches to teaching-learning processes—helping run the institution more effectively.
NCSL programmes developed our leadership qualities and guided us in school administration. They helped ensure smooth conduct of school activities, strengthened cooperation among the school family, and improved relations among stakeholders—transforming teaching and learning processes.
