Abstract
The school faced a number of challenges until 2011 with low academic credentials. Even the
dropout rate was as high as 40%. The school had poor infrastructure, with low participation of
community. Post 2011, the school head and his team has implemented a number of initiatives. The
school undertook an enrolment drive which increased the enrolment and also had a positive impact
on teacher‘s accountability. Entry tests ensured that children who required remedial teaching were
identified and accordingly categorized for special coaching. Observance of school foundation day
and regular parent teacher meeting improved school community relationship. The importance of
information and technology in learning was acknowledged and teachers attempted ICT integrated
pedagogies. New teaching methods like team learning and experiential learning through field trips
were also experimented. Children are encouraged to initiate field studies like study of socio
economic status and bio diversity of villagers and to further publish observations in school
newsletters. The school has also undertaken action research under the aegis of SSA which has
helped in solving fundamental problems of the students in different subjects especially in
Mathematics.
