Abstract

The school is situated in a village where mining and quarrying activities takes place
therefore is polluted with mines (granites) dust and sound. Most of the males work at
granite mines, females are agricultural labours. With the initiative of school head, Gram
Panchayat was approached and school building was constructed. The biggest
limitations of the school are located in a mining village where pollution is a major
issue; students are irregular in school and less motivated to study. Meeting of school
children (Balsabha) is conducted every month which instill confidence among the
children. Awareness rallies are being organised frequently to generate awareness
among the people of the village. The school head and his team have established close
collaboration with the trust who provide financial support to the needy children,
stationary material, computers, chicken dish once a week, soap, comb and nail-cutter.
With the initiative of Head of school dining hall has been repaired for the benefit of
children. A teacher and child cabinet are made responsible for the management of mid-
day meal which demonstrates distributed leadership.

Socio-Cultural Context of the School

This Village is situated on the way from Karimnagar Dist to Sircilla District in Telangana. This
village is having abundant granite/quaries and its polish industries. This Village Odyaram is
polluted with mines (granites) dust and sound.

The Monkeys are come regularly to the village and disturb the livelihood during the day. In the
village most of the males work at granite quaries, females are agricultural labours cultivating
majorly paddy, maize, cotton and red gram. In the village, sarpunch and other leaders are from
two families leading the village since long time. The population, literacy (59%), occupation is
in below table. In the village, surpunch and other leaders belongs to leading families, who are
been ruling for decades.
