Abstracts
This is a small primary school which caters to students from low socio-economic
background. It has only three rooms. There are many challenges in running this school
such as unwanted use of school ground by the community, prevalence of child labour,
casteism and untouchability. The school head and her team has worked diligently with
autistic children and developed strategies for tackling child labour, while integrating
these out-of-school children with mainstream education. She motivated parents to send
their children to school and developed the belief in them to consider their autistic child
special. Started stationery shop, creative corner and different activity based
programmes to promote introvert, economically weak and autistic students to
communicate with everyone. This helped boost self-confidence of students and
decreased student absenteeism. The school head also arranged for skill development
programme to motivate mothers of students in her school.
