Abstracts

This school was wrought with multiple challenges, such as low attendance of students,
poor infrastructure, and absence of parental involvement. In addition the school
students were exposed to prone to anti-social elements. The school head and his team
conducted a village to identify problems in detail and chalked out strategies for
developing various school parameters. Several academic/non-academic activities and
sports competition were conducted. Each day, half an hour is allotted for students to
read newspaper. This practice influenced even those students who were unable to read.
The head attempted an innovation which linked academic credentials with awareness of
political processes. Held elections for the post of student‘s president, for which
conditions for election to the post of president and voting right were reserved for those
who fulfilled the following conditions: 80% attendance in the school as essential; must
remember the tables up to 25, must have knowledge of the prescribed school
curriculum and would have completed their home work during a prescribed time
period. This resulted in positive impact on student attendance and participation in
school activities.
